Rainbow Bird Scare Tape is a 1-inch-wide, 500-foot roll of reflective prismatic film for discouraging flocking birds from seedlings, germinating seed, ripening fruit, and other vulnerable garden areas. Sunlight creates changing flashes of color, while wind adds movement and a fluttering sound. The tape is a visual and auditory deterrent rather than a physical barrier, so placement and timing determine how useful it will be.
Install strips shortly before the crop becomes attractive; tape placed too early may give birds time to become accustomed to it. Cut varied lengths and suspend them from stakes, trellises, wires, branches, or perimeter lines where they can move freely and catch direct light. Distribute the strips across approach routes and the protected area instead of concentrating them in one spot. Retension or relocate them periodically, particularly if birds resume feeding. Keep tape clear of power lines, machinery, irrigation equipment, roadways, and locations where loose material could entangle wildlife. Inspect after storms and remove broken pieces. For persistent pressure, combine changing visual deterrents with supported bird netting or other site-appropriate exclusion.
